About Najem

We are building the advisory bench that most UAE businesses cannot afford to hire.

Why we built it

A mid-sized company in the Emirates operates inside federal law, at least one free-zone rulebook, the standing positions of the financial and tax authorities, and the rules of its own emirate. The businesses that navigate that well are the ones with a legal counsel, a tax adviser, an auditor and a compliance officer on call. Most do not have any of them. Najem exists to close that gap — not by replacing those professionals, but by making the first ninety per cent of the work something a company can do for itself, properly and in its own language.

What we are trying to do

Make well-grounded regulatory judgement ordinary rather than expensive.

How we work

  • Cite or say nothing

An answer that cannot point at its source does not ship. We would rather return "the position is unsettled" than a confident sentence with nothing behind it.

  • Arabic is not a translation layer

The authoritative text of federal law is Arabic. Anything built for this market that reads it in English second-hand is building on a copy.

  • State the limit

Every advisor publishes what it will not do. A tool that is vague about its boundaries is a tool nobody should rely on.

  • Advise, never act

Najem drafts, analyses and recommends. A person decides and a person signs. We have no interest in changing that.

The people

Built in the Emirates, by people who work inside its rules.

Maintains the corpus: which authorities we track, which instruments we hold, and the review date on every one of them.

  • Yusuf Darwish

    Yusuf Darwish

    Head of Engineering

Responsible for the part nobody sees: that a session which takes a minute still returns the same answer when the provider behind it changes.

  • Hessa Al Nuaimi

    Hessa Al Nuaimi

    Head of Arabic Language

Makes sure the Arabic is written rather than rendered — that a document reads as though it was drafted in Arabic, because it was.

In their words

  • The part I did not expect was the disagreement. Four advisors read the same clause four different ways, and the one that worried me turned out to be the one our external counsel raised a week later.

  • We were three weeks into assuming we sat outside the payments perimeter. A twenty-minute session showed us we did not, with the instrument cited. That was the cheapest three weeks we have ever bought back.
